Nick Mavar Death: Deadliest Catch star has died aged 59 after suffering ‘medical emergency’

The former deckhand on the F/V Northwestern passed away Thursday afternoon following a medical emergency in Naknek, Alaska, the Bristol Bay Borough Police Department confirmed to TMZ. Mavar’s family has been notified and police are conducting interviews – but would not reveal the nature of the medical emergency.

The lawsuit would later be re-aimed at “Deadliest Catch’s” production company after Hansen claimed Original Productions Inc. was to blame for implementing the protocols that delayed Mavar’s care. Nine years before, Mavar was a victim of another incident while filming “Deadliest Catch.” During an aggressive storm, a hook came loose and struck Mavar in the face, leaving him with a broken nose. Like the appendix scare, this moment would be documented on Discovery Channel’s YouTube channel.

After working on the reality TV show for over 15 years, Mavar spent his last days in Bristol Bay captaining his own salmon boat. Fans of the series have turned to social media to mourn his death.

His time on the original show came to an end after his appendix ruptured onboard during a December 2020 voyage. Shortly after his medical scare, which was well-documented on the show, Mavar ended up suing the boat’s owners, Sig Hansen and his wife, June, claiming he didn’t receive prompt medical treatment during the pandemic.
