River Ridge High School Lockdown Investigations: Police in Lacey, Washington are investigating an incident at the River Ridge High School located on College Street NE, on Tuesday, 4 June, 2024. According to the Lacey Police Department, officials were sent to the River Ridge High School after receiving a report of an incident this morning.

Police Investigate Shooting Threat

According to the investigators, the Cherokee County School District’s River Ridge High School was placed on an active lockdown following a shooting threat at the school campus this morning. The lockdown which has since been lifted was imposed to ensure the safety of the students while police investigate the incident.

What Happened At River Ridge High School?

A student who witnessed the incident narrated the ordeal before the lockdown was imposed. “I’m a student currently at River Ridge, police are investigating and have been for the past 30 minutes. Some kid behind me while getting off the busses started yelling “I HATE MY LIFE I HAVE A GUN” repeatedly,” Kidd wrote on Facebook.

Officials Statement By The Cherokee County School District

The Cherokee County School District did not release any official statement following the incident. Information on Thurston Co. Scanner confirmed the lockdown status earlier, “River Ridge High School is currently on lockdown. The district is asking if you or your kids aren’t currently at school and able to return home please do so. They will give more information later. It sounds like a bus driver heard a threat and reported it. School has not started yet.”

  • 8:08: Law Enforcement is advising they identified the student, have him detained. He doesn’t have a weapon. The containment units can clear and the lockdown can be lifted.
  • 8:30: North Thurston Public Schools sent a message to parents saying the lockdown is lifted and students should come to school. Principal Malloy will give more details later.
