Sterling Walsh Accident, New Lisbon, WI Death: Mathematics teacher at Mauston High School died tragically

Sterling Walsh Accident, New Lisbon, WI Death: Sterling Allen Walsh, 29, of New Lisbon and formerly of Sauk City, died unexpectedly on Saturday, June 15, 2024. He was surrounded by family members at Gunderson Lutheran Hospital in La Crosse after a sad accident. On October 21, 1994, Dean and Joanne (Vertein) Walsh welcomed him into the world at Sauk Prairie Memorial Hospital. Sterling graduated from Sauk Prairie High School in 2013, where he played soccer and excelled in tennis, lettering all four years and finishing as the #1 singles player and Team Captain.

He studied at the University of Wisconsin, Oshkosh, where he honed his teaching and math talents and graduated with a BA in education. He met Katie Nelson, the love of his life while working for the Dells Army Ducks during the summer. Sterling and Katie married on October 2, 2021, after purchasing a home and living together in New Lisbon, where Sterling has worked as a math teacher at Mauston High School since 2019.

Sterling’s positive approach and competitive drive made him an ideal advisor for the School Math Team, which won the South-Central Conference Math Competition and Mauston’s first championship. He also liked his roles as Head Coach for the Girls’ Tennis Team and Assistant Coach for the Boys’ Tennis Team. Sterling was admired by his pupils, coworkers, friends, and family. To know Sterling meant to love him. Sterling developed a love for bowling in recent years and bowled on a weekly basis. He recently coaxed Katie into joining a couple’s bowling league. Sterling also enjoyed video games, which helped him stay connected with his buddies.

Sterling Walsh Obituary and Funeral Arrangements

The funeral will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, June 24 at St. John’s Lutheran Church, 100 Oak St., Prairie du Sac. On Sunday, June 23, a visitation will be held at the church from 2:00 to 6:00 p.m., one hour before the service. Interment will take place at Prairie du Sac Cemetery.

The gift of Sterling’s life continues through organ donation, and his family is appreciative to the professionals at Gunderson Lutheran Hospital, particularly Nurse Anna, the organ donation team, and Juneau County first responders, for their prompt and competent treatment.
