Wallace J Nichols California Death:  Wallace J Nichols known as the “Keeper of the Sea” by GQ Magazine, has died. Wallace was a marine biologist, and passionate sea turtle advocate who made it his mission to connect every human with their Blue Mind, a water-induced state of calm, unity, and inspired will to protect and restore nature, and the antidote to the “red mind” stress many of us experience today. Please keep his wife Dana, and two daughters Graycie and Julia in your hearts.

Who Was Wallace J Nichols?

Dr. Wallace J. Nichols, is a marine biologist and the author of the bestselling book Blue Mind: The Surprising Science That Shows How Being Near, In, On, or Under Water Can Make You Happier, Healthier, More Connected, and Better at What You Do. Wallace’s heart-centered work has become a global movement; influenced countless environmental organizations, businesses, and educational institutions; and inspired people around the world to protect and restore the oceans and other natural areas, using awe and connection rather than guilt and fear to inspire action.

Dr. Nichols collaborates tirelessly and artfully to create the new story of water and share it with the world. This story includes the vast cognitive, emotional, psychological, social, physical, and spiritual benefits that we can all derive from healthy waters and oceans throughout our lives.

In 2017 Fijian Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama presented the Champion of Change Award at the World Oceans Festival on Governor’s Island, New York to Dr. Nichols.

Wallace J Nichols Career

Dr. Wallace “J” Nichols — called a “Keeper of the Sea” by GQ Magazine, “a visionary” by Outside Magazine, a “water warrior” by AQUATICS International, a “friend of the sea” by Experience Life Magazine, and “the godfather of water” by Irish Life Health and Santa Cruz Waves Magazine — is an innovative, silo-busting, entrepreneurial scientist, movement maker, renown marine biologist, voracious Earth and idea explorer, wild water advocate, bestselling author, sought after lecturer, and fun-loving Dad. He also likes turtles (a lot).

Wallace had a massive impact on how we do our work at Plastic Pollution Coalition, and many of us considered him a personal friend and mentor. We extend heartfelt condolences to J’s lovely wife, Dana, daughters Grayce and Julia, to his mother Sheila and their entire family, and to so many people in our network who knew and loved him. J will continue to inspire our work. We will always find him on the warm ocean breeze, amongst the waves, and in every moment we pause to feel awe and appreciation for our beautiful, blue, water planet.

Tributes

The first post I saw when I woke up this morning was that Dr. Wallace J. Nichols had passed away. To say he was such a great man is an understatement. I saw him speak on many occasions & J did a virtual presentation at my work about Blue Mind. He didn’t want compensation for his time, he only asked that the people who attended to practice & spread the word on Blue Mind. I will miss the annual Blue Mind book readings every year as he so generously did. I will honor him by continuing to spread the message about Blue Mind. My thoughts are with his family & friends during this difficult time. As Dr. Wallace J. Nichols would famously say, “I wish you water.” April
